Hello Sweet Ladies! There has been a reason I have been MIA. While Annie was out on her much deserved North Carolina Vacay, I planned on featuring No Fuss Fabulous ideas for Father’s Day, but then fate (hopefully) stepped in…. and my husband and I were matched with our adoptive birthmother!!!!!! We are over the moon. This will be our third child, as well as our third adoption and we couldn’t be more pleased. So the past week I have been running around confirming paperwork, doctor visits, and longingly looking at tiny onesies! Of course, there is the chance that our adoption could fall through, but we are not thinking about that. Our birthmother is due any day now and we just have time to be hopeful and happy. I’ll definitely keep you all in the loop as things progress!
In honor of adoption and the miracle it is, this week I’m going to feature tips, etiquette, and ideas for throwing an adoption baby shower. I have been blessed to have been given beautiful adoption baby showers and I know that throwing an adoption shower may be filled with unknowns for the host. I’ll talk about what to do and what not to do tomorrow in regards to throwing an adoption shower. Trust me. I have plenty of wonderful memories, as well as best-intentioned-ugly-moments to share and learn from. Today though I am just going to feature some of my favorite favor and present ideas for an adoption shower. Please feel free to leave your ideas as well! We will include them throughout the week for sure!
Here are a few of my favorite adoption shower items to get our brains storming for the rest of the week….
1 & 5 – Rolling Pin Productions Vintage Baby Cookies These nostalgia-inspired baby cookies are perfect for an adoption shower favor as you can request them to be made for any race of child.
2 – Flight Miles
A gift that is never forgotten and always appreciated for those adopting internationally as well as within the United States are flight miles. With my little Ethan, we made six trips to Uganda. Needless to say, my flight miles were used up by the time our adoption finalized. And don’t forget the flight miles for those who are adopting domestically out of their state. When you get the call that your birthmother is in labor, having the ability to fly right in without thinking about the cost of a last minute flight is a priceless gift.
3 – Baby Wrap
Adoptive mothers in the know love wraps. The benefits to attachment that come from having your baby wrapped against you are well researched and documented. Adoptive mothers of even young toddlers appreciate a nice wrap or baby bjorn.
4 – Photography Gift Certificate
There is no greater gift that captured memories. Due to the often large expense of adoption, many adoptive families are unable to purchase nice photography package directly following the adoption. Giving the gift of a photo session or a waived sitting fee is truly priceless. This is not only nice for newborn babies, but children who are adopted later in life as well. Often there are few (if any) photos of their past and the sooner the adoptive family can begin documenting their life together, the easier it will be for the child to begin putting together his or her personal history. A photo package is especially nice to have in order to get mom in front of the camera with her child.
6 – My Family My Journey: A Baby Book for Adoptive Families
This baby book for adoptive families is one of the best I’ve found. It suits a wide array of experiences and choices that bring a family and their new child together. Even if the adoptive mom is a digital scrapbooker like me, this book is awesome to help get ideas flowing for what type of pages would be great to have in their child’s life book.
7 – The Lamb-A-Roo by Diana Kimpton
This is my very favorite adoption book thus far. A mother of an adoptive child can never have too many children’s books addressing the subject. I’ll most likely feature a few more of my favorites throughout the week, but this is my #1.
