As a mother of four (super perfect) children who have skin shades ranging from deep ebony to sweet chestnut (and let’s not forget my husband whose ethnicity is a mystery), I have made it a priority in my home to teach each child to be proud of their body. If there is anything I want for my children, it is for them to be proud of who they are (inside and out) and know that they have everything they need to make their dreams come true. Race is a very open subject in my home. We talk about being black, white, biracial, multiracial, etc. I teach my children that race is a fact that we can not forget and race is a myth that we should never believe. Finding items that resemble my family physically has been a challenge. SO I’ve been working hand-in-hand with my mother (a gifted painter and artist) to offer my collections in different skin shades. I am pleased to announce that almost all my collections are now available in more than one skin tone and/or hair type. I know these don’t even begin to cover the range of gorgeous skin tones we have in the world, but it’s a jumping off point. A special thanks to my dear mother, Sandra Anderson, for her undying support in of my company and often being “the head of my art department.” The hours you have spent re-touching, painting, sketching, re-sketching, and going over each image to perfection has not gone unnoticed.
