I was beginning to think my second Harry Potter party was given the Cruciatus Curse!\u00a0One guest went into labor, another guest’s father had emergency surgery (no worries everything is great now), and the wedding reception I was working on the day of the event doubled booked the venue!\u00a0But after two reschedules and a windstorm, \u00a0it magically all came together!<\/em> Not all my loved ones could make it as planned, but that is the life of any hostess. \u00a0Sometimes you honestly have to pull out your wand and do your best spell to bring it all together! \u00a0 And I have to tell you, the end result really did feel magical<\/strong><\/em>! \u00a0It had a much different feel than my first HP party \u00a0last yea<\/a>r, but I think it’s fun to mix it up a little!<\/p>\n

1) I set out little glasses filled \u00a0with “Polyjuice Potion.” \u00a0Aside each small glass was an envelope labeled with a character specimen from the movie, such as “a hair from the head of Bellatrix Lestrange”. \u00a0 The envelopes were really filled with a small amount of powdered drink mix. \u00a0As each guest arrived, the idea was that they would pick which character they wanted to be that night, drink the “Polyjuice Potion” and sit at the place setting created for that character. \u00a0I also set a large stand filled with black English hats for the ladies to wear.<\/p>\n

2) You cannot see them too well in the photos, but look carefully in the dinner photos and you will see “Prophecy” orbs. \u00a0I created large round ice orbs and placed lights inside in order for them to glow at night. \u00a0These were on each place setting and were each guest’s personal \u00a0“prophecy.” \u00a0Seriously, they looked dynamite – wish I had a close up for you.<\/p>\n

3) I hung a chandelier and two\u00a0candelabras from the tree using fishing twine to make them look like they were floating above the table. \u00a0 These “floating” lights created a dramatic and fun addition to the event. \u00a0When we placed them in the trees and lit the candles, no douse of humility could have made me feel less than brilliant. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

4) \u00a0Owls were everywhere at the party. \u00a0I had them in the trees, in steel bird cages, and on the table. \u00a0I really don’t think you can have enough owls at a Harry Potter party. \u00a0They are currently on sale at Michael’s. \u00a0I may have already bought them all though.<\/p>\n

5) I tried to stay true to an English meal. \u00a0The dinner included Cornish Hens, potatoes, a mixed green salad, carrot, and a variety of desserts.<\/p>\n

6) I held the event in a dear friend’s field. \u00a0I thought this gave the event a Forbidden Forest feel that was a meeting place in the last movie.<\/p>\n

7) Not photographed: I had a jar filled with “wands” on “loan from Ollivander’s Wand Shop.”<\/p>\n

8) I placed lots of sealed envelopes all around to echo the first book when Harry received his exobrant amount of letters from Hogwarts.<\/p>\n
