I started out at Sherwin-Williams picking out a color for “Bill the Painter” and ended up on a ladder in five inch heels faux glazing my entire kitchen and laundry room.

Since I haven’t been able to find a new home, I’ve decided to make my existing home feel new (at least until I can negotiate my father down here to build). So I’ve put myself on a design budget and have started re-creating my home little by little.

I never in my worst nightmares believed that I would ever paint my kitchen blue. A blue kitchen in my mind sounded the same as gingham and ric rac curtains. But this weekend I went ahead and painted my kitchen blue (granted, it is a very grey robin egg blue, but it is still blue…) and I am suprising myself by actually loving it. I think that is what is so fun about design and decorating – you can try new things and create a whole new look that you would never have thought of before. It’s so fun and now the color is leaving me with endless new design and decorating possibilites.

Note: The paint color is a little more robin egg blue than this photo depicts. I realize these photos make the paint seem a little depressing, but in real life there is just enough Robin Egg to not be depressing.

(Don’t worry, I will change the floral arrangment below to match in the very near future. Right now, I’m thinking Pheasant feathers.)

Speaking of feathers and Robin egg blue, another wonderful thing came to light due to me being on a ladder!!! I found two nests of baby doves in my hanging baskets! I purposely (that’s what I tell myself) leave my hanging baskets empty until the end of Spring for the birds to nest in. Every year they hatch and I usually witness most of it, but this year I didn’t notice! I wonder if it’s because Doves are so much quieter than Robins. I really don’t know. Either way, I had double the fun than I usually have without even knowing it! I’m glad I painted otherwise I would have missed the whole thing. I believe another set of eggs are waiting to be hatched very soon. I’ll keep you updated on their progress. Lee says I get the lazy birds in my hanging baskets who don’t want to make their own nests. I say they are the smart birds who shop around for their home…just like I am doing! In the meantime (which may be a very long time ), I’m beautifying my existing nest.

Painting isn’t a known love of mine, but somehow I ended up enjoying it all weekend.
